Leadership Tip

The Power of Connections

According to demand public speakers, authors, and networking experts Jeffrey Gitomer (Customer Satisfaction is Worthless, Customer Loyalty is Priceless) and Harvey Mackay (Dig Your Well Before You Need It) has these sage words about work and peer connections:
  • "Who can you count on?"
  • "Who's counting on you?"
  • "Who can you call at 2:00 a.m. to help you out of jam (work or personally)?"

If you can answer these questions, you have begun understanding the importance of connecting with people in your organization. People carry the keys to every door leading to your organizational success today or tomorrow. The opposite is also true: Don't know anyone, can't go very far. Organizations are built on the connections we forge across the organizational landscape. You can't move up, in work or life, unless you know where the elevator is, who's operating it, and whether or not you have the peer relationship credit to afford the ride!

In our employee and leadership development programs, we focus on critical messages like The Power of Connections, which equips people for being better contributors at work. Session 1002: Discipline 2.0: Getting Managers to Embrace Employee Discipline

Speaker(s): Johnathan St. John, MBA, PHR, Senior Learning and Performance Consultant

Primary Objective: Equip functional line managers and supervisors with a streamlined performance management process to improve employee performance.

Summary of Program: Let's face it. Too often organizational managers want HR to manage their disciplinary issues because they do not feel confident with the organization's policies. Or, the disciplinary process is too time-consuming. How do we make employee discipline easier? Get equipped with efficiency tools for driving management and employee accountability. Position managers as collaborative coaches to their employees, and teach them how to produce the right type and quantity of recognition or disciplinary documentation.
